“Cows for a Cause” Raises Money for Local United Way

PRESS RELEASE FROM UNITED WAY OF MCPHERSON COUNTY

January 22, 2021

For Immediate Release

McPherson, KS –Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance employees have set a record for giving to United Way of McPherson County’s annual campaign.

The employees pledged $64,615 to the United Way, and Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance matched those pledges dollar-for-dollar for a grand total of $129,230 –an all-time record. This represents a 59% increase in giving over last year.

Farmers Alliance held a virtual campaign, as the pandemic has many of its employees working remotely. Courtney Swart, Recruiting and Development Supervisor, said they were able to have fun with the campaign, and used video to educate its employees about the needs of United Way’s non profit partner agencies. “I had a lot of employees reach out and say that the United Way campaign is their favorite event that we do,” said Swart. “FAMI employees continually come together to really make this a fun event.”

The campaign team at Farmers Alliance developed a game called “Cows for a Cause,” which involved donations to buy cows that were registered on giant “pasture” tote boards posted on Main Street outside their head quarters in McPherson. Cross-functional teams competed to buy cows each day of the campaign, and the team with the most cows at the end of the campaign got an extra day off in 2021.

A surprise element of the game was when company President and CEO Brian Lopata and Chairman of the Board Keith Birkhead posed as cattle rustlers and paid to steal cows from the pasture, which raised more money for the United Way. “That was a shocker,” said Swart.

Swart went on to say, “A lot of employees give just a huge percentage of their paycheck to United Way because they understand the needs, they see it firsthand, and they enjoy playing the game.”

United Way Co-Campaign Chair Chad Hitt said of the Farmers Alliance campaign: “FAMI is an amazing organization that has chosen to lead by example. Their willingness and dedication to help support the United Way of McPherson County and its partner agencies, especially during a pandemic, shows just how amazing they are. To have a 59% increase in giving while many employees are still working from home, shows how much Farmers Alliance and its employees care about their community.”

The United Way of McPherson County Campaign ends January 31st.

Deer Mating Season: How to be safe on the roads

Deer mating season is upon is! With deer on the move, it is important to be aware that accidents increase during this time of year. Being prepared is key. Below are some tips that can help keep your vehicle out of the autobody shop, and you and your family accident free.

1. According to the Insurance Information Institute, peak traveling hours for deer during rut season begin from sunset to midnight, and during the hours shortly before and after sunrise. These are typically when the most deer-vehicle collisions occur.

2. Seat belts are important! Not only are they the law in many states, but they can save your life!

3. DON’T SWERVE. Rollovers can happen. Apply your brakes.

4. Deer rarely travel alone. Knowing this information is key. If you see one crossing the road, chances are there are more to follow. Be aware.

5. Scan the road including ditches.

6. Use the high beam headlights on your car if there is no oncoming traffic.

We want you to reach your destination safely, so keep these tips in mind during this season. And, make sure your coverage is up-to-date just in case something bad happens — call your Farmers Alliance Agent for a review today!

As members of the community, we are concerned about the behaviors exhibited, and have shared that concern with local law enforcement.

Farmers Alliance Provides Premium Refund To Personal Auto Policyholders

June 4, 2020

At Farmers Alliance we continue to monitor the impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic on our employees, our agency partners, and our valued policyholders. Throughout the country, quarantines and “safer-at-home” orders have dramatically reduced the use of many personal vehicles. Even in our predominantly rural territory, we have seen less travel during the past several weeks, and ultimately less auto accidents. Farmers Alliance has experienced savings due to this change, and we are now passing that savings to our personal auto policyholders.

We work hard to ensure that our premiums are fair and reasonable, but because this situation could not have been predicted when policy rates were established, we believe sending a one-time refund of a portion of the premium is the right thing to do. The premium refund is based on the number of cars, pickups and vans insured on a personal auto policy with us. These refunds will not affect future premium calculations for these policies, and checks will be mailed to personal auto policyholders during the next several weeks. The refunds are subject to regulatory approval, which is anticipated very soon.

As a reminder, we continue to assist any policyholder who is unable to pay their premium due to the current situation. Through our agency partners, we continue to work with our customers on request by extending premium grace periods, waiving late payment fees and continuing coverage for any expiring policies.

If your agency office is closed to visitors to help prevent the spread of the virus, they are accessible and responsive by phone or email. If you can’t reach your agent, please contact us at 800.362.1075 and we can help.

Thank you for continuing to place your trust in Farmers Alliance. We pledge to continue to work each day to earn that trust, and to do all we can to provide peace of mind for you and all those we serve.

Scam Alert – Premium Payment

BE ALERT – SCAMS ARE INCREASING

As the world health situation continues to be chaotic, we are reminded that there are those who prey on innocent people during times of turmoil or distress. That is happening now, as we have learned of customers being approached and asked for bank information to make their premium payment.

IMPORTANT:  No Farmers Alliance employee will EVER approach a policyholder by phone or email to collect a premium payment. We offer convenient payment options by phone or through our website – all information is at www.fami.com. Or, contact your Farmers Alliance agent for assistance. Stay vigilant – about your health AND your safety!

Assistance for Policyholders

In cooperation with our independent agency partners, Farmers Alliance is prepared to help any policyholder who is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are unable to pay your policy premium at this time or have any questions about your insurance coverage, please call or email your Farmers Alliance agent – please do not go to your agent’s office unless asked to do so by your agent.  We are working with our customers on request by extending premium grace periods, waiving late payment fees and continuing coverage for any expiring policies.

Many agency offices are closed to visitors to help prevent the spread of the virus, but they are accessible and responsive by phone or email. If you can’t reach your agent, please contact us at 800.362.1075 and we can help.

Farmers Alliance cares about your health and safety. We will get through this challenging time together.
